SEEKING KITS FOR THERAPY
« on: November 30, 2019, 01:07:02 PM »
Hi all,
I’ll be honest. I’ve been dealing with mental health issues including a hospital stay after misusing medication, and have developed nasty social anxiety (right now I’m waiting for my wife to advise she and her friend are ready to be picked up from the wedding I left due to a panic attack) and the only thing that’s been helping is styrene. Being at The Bench has made me the happiest I’ve been in months and is wonderful therapy. However this means I’ve been paring down my stash at a rate I’ve not experienced since my first days on this site. However, I was recently made redundant from my job due to a downsizing and both wife and I have been applying for work left right and centre without luck - government support is helping but things are not good. We’ve sold furniture, clothes, as much as we can to get a bit extra for bills and food. I can’t spare even $5 for a bottle of flat black paint or cement.

I know this will come across as greedy, maybe even demanding, and I feel shame even submitting this post, but I’d like to ask for specific kits (yes, this beggar is a little choosy) that you may not get around to and are happy to send to someone who’s trying to cope the best he can and can’t pay in anything but gratitude.

This is a ridiculous thing to do. I know I‘M not as active on the board as I used to be but since it was founded BtS has been a welcome home of my models online and I’ve enjoyed being part of the community. Times are hard and this silly hobby of ours is the only thing that’s helping me through. God knows why I’m crying while I type this.

If you can help me I’ll be incredibly grateful. If the mods or anyone else thinks this is way out of line please PM me and remove the topic.

Thank you.

I thought I replied to this earlier but I was using my phone and it seems it didn’t go through.
I wish I could help but I don’t have anything on your list in my stash. Do you have any second choices?
I’ve been in similar situations myself. It can get better. I don’t know the health care system in NZ but is there any chance of seeing a dr? The right medication can be very helpful.

You did, but somewhere else  ;)

My doctor has been very generous with discounted or free appointments and our pharmacy is currently offering free prescriptions, so that has been a big help! Our system’s pretty good but I’m unclear on much of it...I have an appointment this week with a social worker so I’ll prepare some questions.

I’ll be honest, I didn’t want to go crazy with my wishlist but I have gone back and added some things

Sounds like using a guide to get you through the system is a great idea. Our Veterans Administration is like that. Not even the people who work there know the whole system.

I get the feeling (which others who have more experience share) that unless you ask, you aren't told what's available to help. I received a random email recently advising - apropos of nothing - that may be eligible for extra temporary assistance. As advised I called them, the lady placed me on hold a moment, and after making calculations (without asking anything at all about bills etc) came up with an arbitrary number! Appreciated, but very very odd how they arrive at such things.

With innumerable thanks and a lot of gratitude to kind forumites, I've amended the list.

Thank you again to those who have helped me out. I can't put into words how much your kindness has boosted me mentally, and The Bench has truly become my happy place. My wife has mentioned several times how pleased she is to see how joyous I am  :-* :-*

Sometimes it’s little things that can get you through a tough time. Glad it’s helping!

Hi team,
I’ve had a lot of supportive messages and very kind, welcomed and very generous packages over the last two months and I’m feeling increasingly guilty having this thread running.

Thank you to everyone, I’m excited to post all the builds in the coming weeks and months
