It was meant to be for the same era as the F-111. Back then both VTOL and VG were in vogue so I tried to show what a VTOL or more likely STOVL F-111 might look like. BTW, as an example of what I mean, look at the original Sukhoi T6-1 which also originally was planned to have lift jets before switching to VG wings and becoming the Su-24:
