Russell's What-if Gallery

 :ninja:

Lets get this moving !

Here is the latest and greatest.

A parabolic-wing twin jet interceptor, the CHYak 2 (Cheranovski-Yakovlev) Nato code name 'Fatcat'.

A PS paint showing a section of 4 CHYak 2's of the Estonian Air National Guard climbing on an intercept exercise in the late summer of 1950.

They are framed by a late-afternoon thunderstorm.

The Dassualt - Fauvel F200 "Tonnerre" All-wing design. Shown is a F200 used by the Test Establishment at Istres as a photo and chase plane, painted here with Yvette, her pilot.

Here is a new flying wing design, the W-wing Licensed to build by Scaled composites as the "Calcifer 01".

This design was originally drawn in 3D using Google Sketchup (freeware) and rendered as a jpg for finishing effects and background in Photoshop.

The 8 seat bizjet version.

And a Military version built as a ELINT recon craft, capable of either manned or drone automated operations

Here is some more 3D works , Sketchup model which is in their site 3D warehouse under the title of "KG144aerodrome" a name made for the original purpose of providing simple render-able backdrops for placing into images of scale models taken by that club's members. The design can be edited and re-saved under new names with improvements or changes and can be output with a variety of render tools such as the freeware "Kerkythea".

Note: in true Raiders of the Lost Art fashion, there are underground hangars as well as the surface ones.  :omg-:

Here is a drawing made the old fashioned way, prismacolor pencils on plain bristol art paper and then scanned.

Showing a Regia Aeronautica Macchi "Artiglio" flying wing fighter landing on the carrier Aquila "eagle"

And it was an idea that went to plastic, a scratchbuild in 1/144th scale

Here is a photomanipulation, a what-if model of a Mansyu Ki-199 fighter trainer of the IJAAF is posed in a virtual diorama.

This "diorama" consists of the 1/144th scale model , about 2.5 inches in wingspan

Posed on this painted and composited airfield in Northern China or Manchuria as drawn in PS

And is highlighted by some character figures drawn in the Anime / Manga style.

Rumors abound that one of these fellows is styled on me.

Some more photomanips of flying wing models.

Boeing Stratowing, at sunset

Gotha P60A fighters invading Arizona skies, flying over Camelback mountain on their way to getting their butts handed back to them by the boys at Luke AFB.

Another pencil pusher ! A Savoia Cigno design, putting those old S-55 and S-66 flying boats into the modern jet age.

A flight of Cheranovski-Kalinin 3 aircraft pictured over a Black Sea port (Actually an image of the city of Eilat in Israel taken by aerophotographer Avi Dharor- I so seldom get to accredit photographers as I use a lot of Wikimedia pics and old postcard graphics)

And rumors abound that I'm layered into the pilots seat for these.

More Boeing Stratowings in formation. My first tries at this, excuse the crappy edges.

And a little fantasy paint here, made for a local Az. Modelbuilder, who's dad was a Draken driver and his daughter who loves the film "How to Train Your Dragon" and main character 'Toothless'. A screen wallpaper for their computer.

A few more stragglers. Another colored pencil sketch of some parabola wing types. A few of these were made in 1/144th scale.

We have all dealt with the inevitable JMN's at shows or on the net. My standard invite to them is to "pull my finger"  :on-fire: ;)

And here we see my art-ified alter-ego...the "not-so-reluctant-dragon" tempting a young JMN to give er' a good pull.....

Here is a quick what-if design of a flying wing zwilling using 335 components

:D That catches me up completely on the art/profiles/aero designs side. Most of what is here is all done within the last 9 months with exception of the pencil works.

I'll now procrastinate on getting my physical built scale models images over into their venues.

New one , using the AW56 design from Retro Mechanix article recently.

The AW56 flying wing was originally a V-bomber but went into extended service as a Maritime patrol and ASW craft.

Here we see 2 AW56 Ninus' (Can't decide on Cyrus or Ninus as a name, both were contemporaries of Nimrod) Mk II of Coastal Command getting off to a soggy start from their Scottish Airdrome.

:no-waigif: ---yes, I think I don't have enough wing sweep to match the article 3-views, but I'm fudging it a bit for folks who are already plotting a whiff of Victor kits into this one!
