WW-I Era
« on: October 08, 2012, 01:47:18 AM »
With the advent of the beautiful Eindekker, convert it to the Icedekker.   Complete with some rudimentary form of cockpit heat.

Albatross D.V monoplane parasol on skis.

Sopwith Triplane.   All black fuselage, green drab everything else.   Royal Air Mail.

I hate rigging so convert my biplanes to sesquiplanes, like this 1922 Israeli SesquE5A....makes rigging much easier!!

An ice-boat perhaps, flipped front-to-back with the wing mounted vertically as the sail.

Nice. Yep, it's more '37 than '17.  ;D

What's missing from the painting, aside from the twin-Lewis power turret that would have been
mounted on a production Pterodactyl V, is the rest of the proposed 'system': the Pterodactyl VI,
which was to have the Goshawk mounted in pusher layout and the same turret on the front.
Basically a Pterodactyl V in reverse.

The way it was to work is that the Mk VIs with their forward turret would be at the front of the bomber
formation and the rear-turret Mk Vs at the rear. Of course the enemy fighters would cooperate and only
attack from ahead and astern.
;D

No info available on whether or not they were going to develop right and left turreted versions for
the sides of the formation.
;)

Armament of British Aircraft 1909 - 1939 by H. F. King has nice works drawings of the Hill
and Westland designed turret, along with a full description of operation.

Apply Luft 46 to WW1 ending up with a Luft 20-25 scenerio.
Has kit-bashing and group build possibilities.....

Some of those schemes look superb on newer aircraft! I especially love the red Spitfire, the IAR-80 and the very first one.
