Here is the thread for discussion and sharing of ideas, events and references for the 2022 Extended Vietnam War Group Build.

So, just wool-gathering here....

1) Soviet Spetsnaz (they were there as 'advisors') fire-fighting with USN SEAL/ USA Special Forces.

2) Soviet pilots in MiG-21s going after USN targets.

3) The dominoes actually falling as feared, with the Red Chinese and their erstwhile Vietnamese 'allies' investing the outer islands in the Phillipines.

4) How close is the reality of the 1978 Vietnamese adventure into Cambodia and the 1979 scrimmage with China part of this fantasy? Rhetorical leading question.

Many years ago, there was an article in Air-Britain's AeroMilitatria about RAF operations in Singapore using Gloster Javelins. A reader had sent in a letter to the editor, asking if there was any reports of Javelins making combat contacts with what was going on just to the north. Later, another person responded to that by saying he was a Javelin pilot at the time and that there had been an incident when one Javelin had returned with a missile missing from a pylon. The pilot said that everything was hushed up and no one got to know the for or why about the incident.

Now what if the UK had got involved in Vietnam --------

Now Mrs kitnut is an Army Brat, and her Dad (REME) was posted to Singapore around the same time as the beginning of the war. Mrs kitnut was 1 or 2 years old at the time and they were there for about 3 to 4 years.

Way ahead of everybody, photo date says 2019 but it was built way back in the '90's. It's the old Airfix kit but having u/c upgraded with parts from a Fujimi kit (IIRC)

Well technically Australia was part of the air war:

2 Squadron RAAF Canberra Bombers in Vietnam

France could, more easily, be an extension of their involvement in Indochina; possibly operating out of Cambodia and/or Laos, having been kicked out of Vietnam.

I note that my Royal Australian Marines Alternate Timeline already includes an extended Vietnam scenario, extending into the early mid-80's with the country being partitioned by a broad DMZ north of the 20th Parallel after a series of NVA/VC offensives backfire.

It was called French Indo China before that wasn't it. And the Brits were already there because of Burma and Singapore.

While working with the Canadian Corp of Commissionaires (Vet's organization) I found out that quite a few Canadians did serve in US forces there, my trainer was a Huey door gunner ----

I worked with a bloke in the 90s who was ex RAF. Can't remember which year he was referring to but he said how substantial UK forces were deployed to the middle east and being equipped for jungle warfare, the rumour was that if the government was retuned in the coming general election they would be going to Vietnam, the government lost and the forces. for the most part went home.

"FarmGate II" to replace the original T-28 Trojan/AT-28 Nomad that were quickly using up the available flight hours on the aircraft planned/programmed service life.

Idea if anyone wants to play with it: the UK gets involved with the result that the Audacious-class aircraft carriers HMS Ark Royal and HMS Eagle do stints using their Buccaneers and Phantom FG.1s.

Or even sending pilots to fly the F-8 Crusader (France also received the fighter in the same time)

Most of the ideas shown up are either from the US and Allies sides - but how about the North Vietnamese? Shouldn't they receive some "love"

Wheres one idea:
- What if Kwame Nkrumah (the first president of Ghana) wasn't toppled while it was visiting PRC and North Vietnam (or even failed, been more likely for the proposal), and it decided to support North Vietnam with volunteers.

But "returning" for the "Democratic" side:
- South Korean A-7 Corsair II
- South Vietnam B-57 Canberra (OTL proposal, but cancelled)
