I can't believe its been this long since I updated this. A little trouble with Flickr decide it wouldn't let me upload any more pics unless I paid a monthly fee. Luckily I had started an account for my wife she never used so its picking up the load for now. Anyway, here's a photo dump of the nearly completed Mako.

You are on such a roll.  These two choppers are knockouts.  Been an asset D-Day and days following.   Got them looking so correct and seeming plausible.  8)

Well, I'm calling this one done! It's been a challenge all the way but I think its been worth it. Craziest thing has been the paint. I used a hardware store brand of satin white primer to prime it and apply the white for the invasion stripes. Nothing else would stick to it. The Tamiya acylics would flake off just sneezing at it. I've never touched up something so many times in my life. Fortunately the final touch up still matched the first application of paint even after gloss coat and flat. So a big plus there. Enough groaning here's the pics.

A couple of plastic chips managed to stick to the inside of the canopy somehow. No big deal. Maybe they'll drop off someday. Overall I think it turned out pretty good.

I don't think Tamiya acrylics stick to white anything! ::) :icon_crap:

Brilliant concept & a great build, mate!

I'm late getting here but I'm doing a similar project in 3D. What are the engines for the US version? Are those Merlins from a P-51?

Here's a Chinook I made using a DC-3 as a base.

I like that DC-3 fuselage! Great idea! I may have to store that pic for future reference.
The engines on the British chopper are actually an A-10 engine cut in half and the two fronts and rears glued on to represent radial engines with cooling fans. The earlier American chopper used two P-40 engines from the Airfix Kittyhawk kit. That's what the wings and horizontal stab are from also. The P-40 engines had the radiator intake and exhaust all in the engine "pod" so to speak so it made that a lot easier.
Here's something along the radial engine line but way uglier.

The AEW version is just sinful.

No need for a scale-o-rama for this one. I didn't use any parts of a Chinook, only it's general shape. DC-3 body, MH-53 sponsions and tanks. Chinook rotor blades. The Engine pods are just redone ones from a DC-3 and the rotor housings started off as flat cylinders. Would take a lot of putty and plastic to do the rear door and smooth the outriggers to the body.

I got lucky at the show in Indianapolis last week. I got a silver in the "hypothetical aircraft" category. Fancy way of saying whiff to me. Its about two hours away from my house so not too bad. Great time and lots of vendors.

That one was gone already by the time I went to pick this one up. I would have liked to have seen it.
