Title: Cappuccino Two - The Silver One - Finished
Post by: Robomog on January 01, 2019, 08:31:31 PM
Hi All

Inspired by the feedback on Cappuccino One I have started a second project using a similar design but this time it will be a true 50's style silver spaceship but to a smaller scale so as to give it some size.

Here are the starting components.........

(https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7887/46467656222_553b9c4111.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/2dNbThA) (https://flic.kr/p/2dNbThA) by Robomog (https://www.flickr.com/photos/54032744@N08/), on Flickr

Most are spares from the previous project except that I found the bubble packaging from some mini clips I recently purchased was an almost exact fit for the CD blank.

Incidentally the plastic card used in both projects is also 'found', the black card is from computer memory containers and the white is from an old flippy style information board.

More when it happens.......

Thanks for looking.

Hi all

Started the second spaceship in earnest

First fix some plastic card into the bubble pack shell to stiffen it up using gel superglue. Once dry added some ribs to attach the CD blank then glued it  into position.

When the ribs are half set the cd blank is attached using a combination of gel and poly. This is clamped and left for twenty four hours to fully set.

Here the bracing is going in.......

Followed by the ribs.....

And then the top........

While left to dry I started the upper body using the same construction method as Cappuccino One exception this time the clear top is stuck down now as it is going to be painted over.

The clear section is held down with a plastic collar on top .........

And fixed with gel superglue on the inside........

So far so good, watch this channel for further installments

Hi all

A bit more progress.

Before I attach the top I'm adding some detail to the base. 50's flying saucers always seem to be very plain and shiny on top and lumpy and bumpy on the bottom. So I'm  using some empty pill packets to form the bumps and kids beads for the landing gear.

Cappuccino Two will also need some sort of antigravity engine so I have created an array using a circle of plastic card and some of the press button thingies from the lid.

The story so far.........

Futuristic lumps and bumps in the making......

(https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7865/32646415448_12fb8bb5e4.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/RJRpVS) (https://flic.kr/p/RJRpVS) by Robomog (https://www.flickr.com/photos/54032744@N08/), on Flickr

They will be attached using gel superglue.

The antigravity array........

The base is complete, the antigravity is placed in position for the photo and will be painted and stuck in place when the major paintwork is finished ...........

To be continued.........

You're on to one of my tricks, mog.

Those pill blister packs are great and the clear ones are especially nice since they make neat little bubble canopies.

It never occurred to me that they'd make great greeblies too.

Keeping my eye ever peeled for more greeblies,

Brian da Basher

Hi Brian,

Thanks, I have learned a new word today "greeblies"

I was also surprised when I looked it up and find it's an accepted terminology in modelling circles.

Was absolutely Gob smacked when my spell checker also picked up this word without any queries

I shall consider my self enlightened

A skill you didn't know had a name ... and you've mastered it! Nice

IIRC, greeblies was coined by the modellers at Industrial Light & Magic who built the original Star Wars ships.

Hi all

Probably because this is a simpler build and very basic colours I've finished this project before Cappuccino One.

I was sorely tempted to add a few cannon and some crosses and change it into some kind of Haunebu flying saucer but this was built for those that lusted after a 50's style B-movie flying saucer

So here it is.........

Hmmmmm.......  not very exciting pictures let's try playing with the backlighting...........

Bit better......  aaaaaah ! WTF Let's go for the full moody UFO ! .............

THATS BETTER!

Even got a bit of unintentional camera shake to give it that blurry 50's "taken on the spur of the moment with a box brownie" look.

Anyways this project is officially complete so any comments and criticism greatfully received as always.

Thanks for looking

Criticism: You forgot the flashing lights! :o

Wonderful little build, exactly what I'd expect for a 1950's B-movie special effect, hanging from a piece of string & wobbling all over the place. ;D

I agree with OW: this takes me back to 60's and 50's alien movies, the photos you took are perfect!

That’s not a model folks! You’ve seen it here first, these are photos from the Chinese rover on the far side of the moon! Aliens have been hanging out there since 1950!

Or it could be the pain killers I’m on these days.........

Very nice work mi amigo!

You made my day with this beauty, Mog!

The moody shots make it look like it leaped off the small black & white TV screen of my Saturday afternoon B-movie re-runs!

Fantastic modeling!

Thanks guys,

This was a relatively simple build inspired by yourselves, I had a lot of fun with this one and your kind comments are the icing on the cake.

Beautiful!!  It really looks like something right out of a alien attack movie, or even an improved alien model from UFO.

Is so B-movie correct I got bag of popcorn in hand (really) to carefully review pictures.
Is firing on all 1950s cylinders and/or anti-gravity units.  '50s cool daddy-O  8)

Antonio, that piece of work adds the final touch to a beautiful model.  'Tis truly gorgeous and looks right out of a SF series or movie from the 50's or 60's, but with better production values than a lot of them.

Thanks again for the comments guys,

Nice hijack Antonio !

Finishes it off a treat.

For those interested here's the original shot before it was edited in Paintshop Pro

As you can see the supporting threads have been airbrushed out and the photo cropped to get rid of the clutter in the bottom right hand corner.

You were bang on Old Wombat it was a wobbly model suspended on wires. Also have to admit in retrospect not adding lights was a missed opportunity

Such is life.......

Thanks for looking

Neither have I :)
The plain old "Paint" from Windows is good enough for me. Just added some white dots of different dimensions.
