Well, it's said that the wing fold arrangement for the F4F-4 was inspired by a rubber eraser and two paperclips.

Not sure but weren't most of those concepts, in particular the super jumbos, canned under Alan Mulally before he moved to work his magic on ford and kill off or most of their most innovative concepts, marques and divisions?

Ok then when did they die?  I was under the impression it was Mulally who moved Boeing away from super jumbos and jumbos to concentrate on large twins?
