Convert OH-58D's to OQH-58D's, using a lot of MQ-8C hardware and design? There was also Bell's OH-58F proposal which added a more powerful engine (essentially transplanting a lot from late-model Bell 407's) and used a new sensor turret under the nose. At least one demonstrator with uprated engine flew (I had a very small part in designing that when I first came to Bell).

Hey, Carl how about we rename this thread to something along the lines of OH-58, Bell 206/407 etc. and related.
-
Sure thing
Jeff Jon.

Thanks, Curl. ;D

Sorry Jon. I always get major brain malfunction when it comes to you and Jeff.
-
What about a 607 with a NOTAR or ducted rotor?

Just remember, Jon is the pretty one :)

BTW, AVX was founded by a number of disaffected former Bell employees. The upper management type responsible for their disaffection has since "decided to move on to new challenges".
Biggest problem I see with their proposal is that you are going to need a radically new transmission to handle the new demands and I question just how large that's going to be, unless you are also going to fly-by-wire controls for the rotors.

Isn't moving the sighting unit from mast top to chin a downgrade, really? The whole idea with the mast-mounted sight being that you do not need to expose the rest of the chopper, but can hover behind treeline with only the sight visible?
-
That was the idea when the main theatre of deployment was Northern Europe. The locations where they have actually been used have shown that it's not a useful concept in much of the world, hence the US Army's desire/request for an under-nose mounting.

MQ-8C, when you just don't want to mask.

Nice photo, though that might get messy if they don't retract before landing

Really an ASW variant.

Interesting, is that an ASM or a mine-sweeping device?

C-703 AShM, I think.
