One of my favorite planes! When I was 4, my Dad was finishing a model of the Super Constellation (probably the Revell 1/128) and he put it up on a high shelf in one of the closets before he went to work, telling me not to touch it. Of course, I touched it - took it out to the empty lot next door and flew it around, until a couple of the props fell out... so I quickly put it back on the shelf. When he got back, he was not pleased... we both went out to the field and recreated my "flight path" and luckily for my behind, recovered the props.

Great story. I also threw a prop off my Monogram HU-16 Albatross. Never recovered.

Thanks perttime   Great photo (and an intriguing recovery rig attached to that tail!

I find that identities of Ilmavoimat aircraft during the Continuation War get confusing (in this case the new yellow ID band probably covering the aircraft number). One of the Facebook commenters suggests that the aircraft pictured is FR-121, crash-landed at Malmi on 14 July 1941 after suffering battle. The pilot was given as kersantti (Sergeant) Aaro Nuorala of 2/LLv 30. [1]

The issue is that  most sources show LLv 30's 'Red 1' as FR-129. One poor-quality photo of FR-121 shows a '2' on the rudder. (Profiles and model decal sets suggest that, by Dec 1942, FR-121 had become 'Yellow A' of 2/LeLv 14).

So, does anyone know for sure which airframe is in this photo? (Or which bits of the above - all from internet sources - is incorrect?)

I am convinced that it is FR-121. I don't have original sources but people who have Finnish Air Force history books (mainly by Kari Stenman) in their hands say that FR-121 is the only one that fits. FR-121 certainly had a mishap at Malmi, on 14 July 1941, after shooting down a MBR-2 flying boat and receiving some damage too. Apparently FR-129 inherited the tail number when FR-121 went for repairs. I also saw a mention that FR-121 was later used for some experiments, at least with a different wing.

Thanks for that. Yes, a substituted tail number would be the simplest answer.

I too have seen FR-121 referenced as the aircraft fitted with the 'E type' wing. Invariably, such discussions are accompanied by a photo of a Mercury-engined D.XXI fitted with that more tapered, increased washout wing. I'm pretty sure that photo was of a company machine at Schiphol - in less cropped versions, you can read the word Verboden on the hangar wall. I guess no images of the E-winged FR-121 exist?

I don't remember seeing such a photo. The best sources would be something like https://www.amazon.com/Fokker-D-XXI-Aces-World-Aircraft/dp/178096062X or https://www.antikvariaatti.net/tuotteet/335791

Is that a 1/2 scale flying/wnd-tunnel model at the far end?
