Ooh, goody! 8)

Hope I can get one from BNA soon! Been wanting a Crusader III for a while, now! :D

Only question is "When will someone do a full interior for it?" With the hatches open there's a LOT visible inside that tank.

Well Its a hell of a start on the Crusader line. The Mk 1/MkII had heaps more produced. Although there is really nothing fundamentally too wrong with the Italeri offerings.

But.. elephant in the room... still no Daimler Armoured Car.

The 1/35 Bf109 is already getting some "flak" on LSP and a couple of other sites. I can understand the hate if the scale had been 1/48...

I'd guess that most of the "flak" is related to the scale.

However, I can see where Border Models, & a few others who are producing 1/35 aircraft, are coming from. Their target market isn't the traditional 1/32 aircraft modellers, it's the 1/35 armour modellers, who now have aircraft in the correct scale to set in dioramas with their vehicles. Plus, if they want to do an aircraft diorama, they don't have to source relatively rare 1/32 figures to go with them.

Compared to the 1/35 armour market, the 1/32 aircraft market is tiny, so producing aircraft in the more popular scale ain't a stupid business move.

Border Models is to release a 1:32 scale Avro Lancaster B.Mk. I/III

"Today we are releasing our first 1/32nd aircraft BF010 Avro Lancaster w/full Interior. When we first saw the 3D model and BOXART of it, we were hooked. Due to the change of events in 2020, we ended up acquiring the molds for this kit. We spent a year doing more testing, fixing, including making instructions without design drawings in order to make this epic kit a success. Finally we finished it. We contacted the artist, Mr. Mark Postlethwaite. and purchased the rights to use the painting from him. It will eventually be marketed as BOXART for this product. Due to many production troubles and mold maintenance issues, the product will be sold in limited quantities worldwide and will not be produced again for a certain period of time afterwards. This Christmas season, it will be available for pre-order all over the world"!.......................................Border Models

This is the Wingnut's mould. IE box art has not changed.

Chatting with other Canauckistan modelers it appears the street price with be very close to if not $1,000.

The Airfix 1/72 Lancaster is around $52. So why buy 1 model when you can get 19.  ;D

My Bro' builds 1/24 kits, and he said he had money down on a 1/24 scale Lanc'. I think the manufacturer was HK Models and I can't remember what the price of it was. Looking on the internet, Heritage Aviation was in the process of making one too, but that was before Ian shut down most of the operation.

From Google Maps it looks like it's meant to be roughly around the Battery 129 entry tunnels off Conzelman Rd, Sausalito, but, as I've never been there, I could easily be wrong. ;)

It's mildly ridiculous with that turret - two guns and a very un-Russian/Soviet external ammo bustle. How are you going to make Russian popcorn with that setup? The hammer and sickle and all the excess gear. make it look too war-gamey. But that aside, it looks like good whiff fodder if you want an articulated tank. Put an M-60 or similar western turret on it...

It's like a weird amalgamation of some tank tropes  - both real and fantasy - to make a new tank. Bit of IS-2 (glacis and area under turret), bow may also be nod to Objekt 279, double gun from Gundam and/or C&C, two tracks from weird Cold War studies (although those were articulated, unlike this), axes (???) and exhausts from WH40k probably, Grad rocket or Pantsir missile packs, drums because Soviet/Russian tanks won't work without....

I mean, I have no problem with whiffs-from-the-box (enough with the Nazi wankery, tho, please), but this seems... a mess somehow. Steel moulds cost loads of money. Some projects are deemed too risky. And then there's... this. Apparently Border Model think "post-Apocalypse" is the next big thing in modelling and there's a buck to be made.

Could be interesting to get one and whif the whif to make it a bit more convincing. Shorten hull a bit and use one track per side. Proper exhaust(s). Dump the stupid axes. Keep two main guns to leave it just a bit mad.  ;D

The Modelling News has an article (LINK!) that includes a short video with an animated CAD assembly of the tank. Pretty nifty!

<....>Put an M-60 or similar western turret on it...

The engine deck and running gear looks very Patton-ish already, no?

Craig - I hadn't seen the Techno Police 21C; looks a lot like it.

Moritz - I noticed the Objekt 279 bow. I agree with your other assessments, including the excessive World of Tanks inspired NAZI wankery.

Mould life extension exercise maybe with various bits of other vehicles. The sprue layout would determine if all new mould or other bits.

Still as a few of you have already said... there is promise in there

I'm convinced it's a propaganda piece, as the Chinese, Japanese & Russian subtitles translate to "Soviet heavy tank Apocalypse" (note: not post-apocalypse), with Apocalypse appearing to be the name of the tank type.

It would fit with a lot of other things I've been seeing over the last few years with model products coming out of China & Russia.

When I saw the embossing on the glacis, my first thought was the old Command and Conquer computer game. The quad track also reminded me of a tank from an old anime series, Techno Police 21C
T Police 21C Temzin tank by VileDr.Yo, on Flickr

I actually like the turret on that Border Apocalypse kit but I would probably get rid of the side rocket launchers and use the turret on a different hull. I probably wouldn't use the rest of the kit.

The overall shape of the turret on the Border Apocalypse kit looks like a heavily modified T-14 Armata turret. The T-14 turret in unmanned though.

Don't forget about the Bandai M61A5 with the twin main guns as well.

I tried to get one of those Techno Police tank kits many years ago but the prices have always been way out of my reach.

Lots of promise in that kit.  Shame the hull is all one-piece - I'd cut it apart & make it an articulated tank - turret, ammo & driver in front half, engine & fuel in rear ... like the Swedish UDES XX20 :D

The Apocalypse tank is based on the Soviet tank of the same name from the video games Red Alert 2
and Red Alert 3.

Concept art for the game.

Holy Praying Mantis, Batman!

My first thought was an enormous single claw, and small laser turrets on the front corners. Also, the tool & equipment boxes on
the back end become box missile launchers.

That's the one!

Might also be a smart idea to use a set-up like this with Stinger or Starstreak. Should be easier to maintain line of sight (Starstreak) from a couple of meters up or just give a wider view (both) with less chance for the attacker to use ground masking to hide. Maybe even something like an IRST sight atop the mast?

Moritz

There have been similar proposals using SAMs including some with ADATS or Stinger.  As it was, PARS 3 LR/TRIGAT-LR does have an anti-helicopter as well as anti-tank capability.

Here's another (photoshopped?) one:

It was planned to use the TRIGAT LR missile not HOT.

The pack at the back looks more like an alternative load judging by the tube arrangement.

A different approach with the article;ated launcher might be to use an ADATS conversion and thus produce something akin to this:
