As rainy season makes its appearance out west, most of the CalFire fleet is home at McClellan airfield near Sacramento. This is likely the largest fleet of flyable S-2s and OV-10s left in the world. The two recently acquired combat vet OV-10Gs are in the lineup.

Back around 2005 or 6 I saw about 20 S-2's in a boneyard compound at Abbottsford Airfield.

The Douglas factory at Long Beach, California in the 1960s. The aircraft being fitted out are the firm's DC-8 aircraft, a design intended to rival (and beat) Boeing's B-707. Although sold in respectable numbers, it never outsold the (similar) Boeing design.

Photographer's Text: Last night I captured an incredibly difficult shot: ISS transiting the moon, while gently kissing Tycho crater as it flies by at 5 miles per second. That crater is 53 miles wide, so while the station almost looks like it's orbiting the moon it's actually 1000x closer to us.
