Richard,
I'm on an incredibly tight budget compared to the previous decade or so and instantly thought a masking for the entire paint scheme would be very costly.  By the same token, masks for just the main markings would be, in my uneducated mind, significantly less pricey.

No, I was thinking masks for the markings as I prefer painting them on as opposed to decals.

Hope that clears it up as much as mud.   ;D

Ah right! I see the confusion now. The masks I'll be doing will be for the markings only and will come with a full set of views of the camouflage scheme and will be significantly cheaper than decals.  8)

Hi guys, well what might have been if the Australian Government had kept its Fleet Air Arm and upgraded the Skyhawk in a similar way to how the RNZAF did? New radar, GPS equipped and laser designator capable. Also, what might of camouflage schemes looked like for the upgraded Skyhawks, called A-4G+ in this case?

I’ll consider both air superiority and ground hugging camouflage schemes in this study. The Air Superiority schemes speak for themselves. The low level schemes take into account the effects of the Su-27 Flanker family’s arrival in the Asia Pacific region.

In my version of this “What if?” reality there is no such thing as ‘budgets’ so many experiments are/were carried out. Plus the many exercises partaken in across the country and abroad and the camouflage schemes applied for them.

This should be interesting. Let me know what you think and don’t hesitate to offer possible camouflage/markings ideas!

Cheers

Richard.

Very nice. I once toyed with a Whiff of the RAN reacquiring a carrier capability after East Timor. Part of the way they did it was to buy (back) the surplus Kiwi Skyhawks to use as a lead in trainer to surplus Sea Harriers. This is what they would look like!

I can already see the A-4 being armed with ASRAAM for the occasion......  :)
Forget about his bow and arrows- why wait until that sparrow has done his deed when I can just bury him right now 'cause I'm sick and tired of hearing why he wants to have his way with the cock robin!?

Thanks guys. OK, here we have a low level type camo aimed at trying to survive in an Su-27 family heavy environment. In other words..........LOW level!

Both those Skyhawks are beautiful!!  I could see the RAAF capitalizing on SIngapore's experience and expertise and re-engining their Skyhawks with either F404's or F414's in a dry form.  Add a bypass/core flow mixer in the exhaust pipe and you'd have a distinctly low IR signature, too.
