Core kit of my build is 1/600 Aurora Moscow. To become 1/72.
If built without changes in hull length, it will be 77ft 3in long. Part of 1/600 Airfix Moscow might be used.
Destined for archilelago patrol/gun boat fleet.

Interesting concept. :) If you squint at the box art, it could really pass for a speed boat or yacht of sorts.

This box brings back memories. I kinda built one many decades ago.
This would make an awesome private yacht with some type of advanced VTOL aircraft for the rich and famous.

Depending on the time period you could use the included helos as UAVs :)

Began today by cutting & filing off 1/600 looking items. Doors, anchor chains, life boat mounts....
Helps to look past 1/600ness of model and see 1/72ness to work with.

Build is moving along faster than expected.
Did mods to front deck (some scratch built parts) so two 1/76 M3 Lee turrets fit structure well without odd looking overhang.
They look more correct than Grant version. Hatch on top, no little MG turret. Each will have 25mm Bushmaster metal barrel.
Starting on bridge using 1/76 Airfix Matador cab parts. Think its gunna work.
Good use for 1/76 parts that are smidge small for 1/72 vehicle builds.

In work ruff picture attached.
Need to make door outline below rear side window as on truck. Window frame placed (not glued) for photo.
Is room for crew to move around turret and bridge/storage structure.
First raised piece behind bow will be hatch.
Going with multipurpose rear deck to have mission specific items attached at shore. Examples from 1/72 kits are Bofors 40mm trailered ground type mount which could be bolted down or trainable Katyush rocket launcher or Hellfire launcher, 20mm Vulcan(s), etc.....
Rear storage part of superstructure can store mission specific stuff like ammo or rockets. Rear deck and superstructure can carry food, fresh water, fuel barrels, ammo boxes, general supplies for cargo missions too.
Hope to build various mission specific loads for rear deck. Will take some time.
Thatz build concept that soon became apparent to me.
Be versatile vessel around the archipelago.

For those who like to see details-issues of a build, this post is for you guys. Otherwise skip this.
Surprise was; kit is missing inset stern deck that fits under main deck.

Bought as previously opened kit. Thatz how it goes. Makes build more complex.
Upside is went kit digging and with parts from two kits came up with alternate treatment for stern.
After cutting, filing, heating & bending and scratch parts to yet make, it looks promising.
If it builds and fits OK as new 1/72 stern treatment will post pics.

For the fight deck, what if you extended the deck out to each side on sponsons? Works for the big carriers. It could give you 50% more deck space. Just my $0.02 worth.

Scaled to 1/72, I reckon we're looking at a big PBR, a blue-water patrol boat or a small corvette. ;)

Not really. As 1/72 is 77ft 3in long. Elco PT boat is 80ft.
Steel hull vrs wood. Heavier than PT boat. Perhaps 15kt cruising speed.
If kit was 1/350 - 1/400 to start with - hmmm.

OOPS --- Ya know, you were right to start with (cept for corvette). My mistake :icon_crap:

Figured filling in open part of stern. Cut sections out of Lindberg 1/240 USS Olympia superstructure where 5" guns mount.
Unlike Revell kit the guns don't rotate, ya just glue barrels in. Cut open slots where 5" guns are and mounted Revell 1/426 USS Arizona rotating 5" turrets behind slots. Cut down barrels and drilled holes in which will be metal 50cal barrels. Will have one rotating 50cal turret at each stern corner under main deck with Olympia parts wrapping around stern to fill opening.
>attached pictures< show way parts go together and how turret fits over plastic tube stock so it can rotate.
If stern parts glue together OK, can get back to upper deck.
