in my mind Australia never got the spitfire,we got whirlwinds(this is my third).
so after being replaced in frontline service by whirlwind MK111's the MK1's were moved down the line to southern defense,85 sqn got their first in late 1943.

it's the trumpeter 1/48 kit with a couple of mods...moving the radiators back into the wing and lowering the cockpit floor, plus a set of barracuda main wheels....the decals are a redroo set for spitfires called boring silver...enjoy

Very cool! What did you use for the metallic finish?
-
it's alclad2 DURALUMINIUM ,i'm very happy with the way it came out.
-
Ooooooooooo, shiny!!!! Awesome job man. That aluminum finish is perfect 8)
-
Beautiful finish and I love the idea!
I have always had a soft spot for this aircraft, plus I'm going through a stage of WWII RAAF aircraft, the more obscure the better. So this is right up my path.
The finish you have achieved is fantastic, you should be very proud of it!
Gosh I may have to get one of these, though I would go down the camouflaged path for mine, something that replaced the Airacobras!.
-
Very nice model and I like the back story too, the time line works quite well too.
-
That looks fantastic! Great work!
Cheers,
Logan

It does look very good, but --- (JMN hat on), the rear fuselage (including fin) from the just behind the cockpit/wing trailing edge to the rear was built out of magnesium alloy as it was a non-strategic material back then

Except for the Australian-built Whirlwinds, which were of all aluminium construction. ;)

Ha Ha! well I wonder what they did with the sudden shift in cg, as aluminum is twice as heavy as similar strength magnesium

very nice :)
Will you drop the flaps on the next one ??
-
Wow! Is this the very first Whirlwind with metallic finish ever? (will you get the Nobel prize for it?) ;)
-
There goes one Whiff Idea ;)
Brilliant work!! 8) 8)
-
Great finish on your Whirlwind and there is certainly nothing "boring" about that model.
-
That is just simply stunning!
The all over silver with white tail scheme really compliments those Aussie markings nicely!
This beauty is bound to turn heads!

Just thinking a Dh Hornet would look great in that scheme, any plans for a follow up?
-

wing comander Clive "killer" Caldwell's 1947 DHA built hornet.
