Bandai
« on: December 20, 2012, 03:04:17 AM »
Bandai has been around for a very long time and for many years was a provider of many highly detailed 1:48th scale armor model kits.  Some of these were quite impressive with the full interiors and drive trains represented in small scale with all of the details that many other model companies only hinted at or ignored completely.

Moritz Fabian Lünstroth uploaded a very nice kit review of the Bandai 1:700 scale Deep Sea Drilling Vessel "Chikyu" (kit number 178384) at Modellversium.de.

Clicking on the thumbnail or the html above will get you to the review

This model caught my attention because of the hull shape and the many small details that could be used on other what if type projects.  Or you could build the "Chikyu" as is and turn it into a sea-based rocket launching platform, or build it as the model is purposed for deep sea drilling.  :)

The only detractor I can see would be the price of the kit which for some may be a bit much to pay for a source of spare parts.

Hmmm...the sea-based rocket launching platform idea is a tempting one.

Takara has/had one in 1/2400 as a Gashapon: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Takara-1-2400-Japan-Ocean-Ship-display-stand-/370572866787 It's from their "Nihon Chinbotsu" (Japan Sinks) series :

Geez - I didn't realize that they were going for these prices now! I only paid about $7 ea. The drilling ship is just OK. It could be rescaled to something else. These "kits" are all plastic, so they can be stripped and used for parts. The deep sea exploration ship is well done and easy to strip apart and modify.  I have a local Japanese market that has a Gashapon section; I should see if they have any cool ones left.

1/72 Millennium Falcon 'Perfect Grade' This version is based on the studio’s original movie (A New Hope) 1.7m miniature, which carried much more detail. This is the original 3-landing leg version.

And the price will be (please be seated): £291.66, US $378.95, AUS $530.64

Work in progress ::

I am giving up listing them. They all end up on the shelf of procrastination anyways.
