What a super vid, well spotted Greg.
But what's with all the slo-mo? The choppers look crazy at slow speed! I'm amazed they don't have bridle catchers for the Super Etendards in this day and age.

Ooops!

Aborted Landing On Russian Carrier (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3lptIYgRBRQ#)

That could have been very nasty if the hook had caught...
-
There was a quite discussion about this video: some said that this was actual aborted landing, others claim it was (another one) demonstration of super-maneuverability of Su-30. However, we've got amazing video!
-
I'd think that it was a demonstration of an inexperienced carrier pilot demonstrating that he doesn't know how to fly a missed approach. Had that hook caught... pancake!
Very cool video no matter what.
That Mighty Mo video is awesome as well. I can only imagine what the escort ship crews must have thought knowing that their "big" gun was secondary armament for BB 63. It would be nice to see the impacts as her shells hit the target of the SINKEX.

The only real replacement for a DC-3 is another DC-3.

This DC-3 (BT-67), a turboprop DC-3 nicknamed Lidia, crashed in 2012. All the passengers escaped without injury. However, the aircraft didn’t fare as well. For almost a year, the damaged craft sat idle under very harsh conditions until a team of engineers made an attempt to rebuilt the aircraft. They faced extremely cold temperatures, blowing snowstorms and high winds. It’s a great story that shows the power of dedication, hard work, and hope to rescue a classic aircraft.

Cool. I did not know about this Ice-capade. ;D
I checked out the Basler website. Cool time lapse video on a complete BT-67 conversion here (http://www.baslerturbo.com/production-time-lapse-video.html).
The site FAQ says:
Q. Will Basler Turbo Conversions, LLC run out of DC-3 airframes?
A. Not really. We believe that there are more than 500 good candidate airframes in existence.
Q. How does Basler Turbo Conversions, LLC determine if an airframe is candidate for conversion?
A. We look for corrosion and damage to determine if it is economically feasible to repair the corroded or damaged areas.
Q. What about fatigue?
A. The DC-3 air-frame is infinitely repairable as related to fatigue damage.
Q. How long does it take to convert a DC-3 to a Basler Turbo Conversions BT-67?
A. The conversion is actually a re-manufacturing process. The whole process takes roughly 6 months and requires 35,000 to 45,000 man hours to complete, depending on configuration.
Q. Can you still get parts for a DC-3?
A. Yes, due to the number of militaries that operated the DC-3, there is a vast supply of parts still available. Basler has a large stock of DC-3 parts and has produced the parts where world stocks are depleted.

The following footage was filmed from a U.S. Air Force KC-135 from the 340th Expeditionary Air Refueling Squadron as it refuels an AC-130W over Iraq during a night operation in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. (http://youtu.be/2ZZnoAUOSic)
The best part is when the gunship disappears into the night.
There are very few details about the gunship operations in Iraq. Among the things that we know is that two AC-130s along with some A-10 Warthogs were involved in a quite famous airstrike during which 116 ISIS-controlled fuel trucks were destroyed near Abu Kamal, Syria, on Nov. 15, 2015 as part of the coalition’s Operation Tidal Wave II.

What sort of weapon hard points are they looking at fitting. Am I right in thinking that they have tested a gun system?
-
What sort of weapon hard points are they looking at fitting. Am I right in thinking that they have tested a gun system?
Weapon hard points would be as tested on the ATTR in a "moustache" position and limited to a rocket pod, gun pod, or Hellfire double-rack (four-rack hangs down too far). A gun system has been trialed and found wanting; too, you need to make certain you don't hit yourself (like the tilted nacelles when in helicopter mode). If it was strictly for gravity drop weapons, you might fit racks behind the rotor plane, but only gravity drop weapons (bombs, torpedoes, etc.).
We are looking at ways of improving performance and reliability/maintainability, too.

A wonderful example international cooperation.
Recently in the skies over Germany, a Boeing 777 suffered a category 4 chemtrail unit spray failure in two of its port vents. In a show of international support, Germany scrambled two Typhoon fighter jets, each equipped with a compact chemtrail dispersal system. In a short time, the German fighters were able to move into position to enable the 777 to continue in its geoengineering mission. All aircraft landed without incident, and the spray operation was a complete success!
Our thanks to the BA crew flying in trail who captured this amazing sequence of events.

Historian Unveils Never-Seen Footage of Armstrong and Aldrin on the Moon
One last Apollo story, if you haven’t had your fill. And this is a good one.
Back in May, in preparation for the upcoming 50th anniversary celebrations of Apollo 11, space historian Robert Godwin was going through film footage he’d received from NASA years earlier. One particular sequence caught his eye in a copy of the internegative created in July 1969 from the original 16 mm film returned from the moon. Whereas subsequent views of Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin on the surface—the ones we’ve all watched hundreds of times—show deep shadows around the lunar module that completely obscure the astronauts’ actions at times, Godwin could clearly see the two astronauts moving around in the shadows.
For the first time, we can now see what was happening right before Armstrong took one of the most famous photos in history, of Aldrin standing on the lunar surface.
Godwin told the whole story at last week’s EAA Airventure gathering in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. You can watch his talk and the footage at the 54:13 mark in the YouTube clip below.

Op Inspiration. Snowbirds over Canada
This is their Ottawa pass. Skip forward to 10:30.
At 10:35-50 you will see a large campus on the left. That is the new DND HQ campus. It used to belong to Nortel.
I frequently walk around the campus. There many are public trails.
I have my best modeling inspiration moments when walking around here.
At 10:55 to 11:00 you are flying over my neighbourhood. I can see my house. The "spit" and sailing club are a 5 minute walk from my place.

It was replaced by Lockheed Martin’s Compact Kinetic Energy Missile (CKEM) program which eventually was cancelled too. From what I understand such systems were deemed too specialised and the need simply not there vis-à-vis other solutions.

Nash the Slash - Connections . . . the Wiki entry for Nash the Slash says this :-
'The "Nash the Slash" persona came from silent film, and Nash said he took his stage name from that of a killer butler encountered by Laurel and Hardy in one of their first films, Do Detectives Think? (1927), for which he composed a soundtrack score. (The film character's name is actually "The Tipton Slasher"; nowhere on screen does "Nash the Slash" appear.)'
(My Bold)
The real "Tipton Slasher" was of course William Perry, the bare-knuckle boxer, see :-
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Perry_(boxer)
and his statue, and the Fountain pub, are literally a five minute drive from where I live, likewise his resting place.

I must admit, I still can't get my head around the inability of want by the USN to apply and use ski-jumps to its LHD's to improve their V/STOL aircraft performance and capabilities, be it the AV-8B or F-35B!

I must admit, I still can't get my head around the inability of want by the USN to apply and use ski-jumps to its LHD's to improve their V/STOL aircraft performance and capabilities, be it the AV-8B or F-35B!
It's not an inability, it's a difference in priorities. LHDs are primarily amphibious assault ships and all else is secondary. Unlike most of the world's other ramp-equipped ships, they do not exist to protect the fleet from snoopers, provide CAP protection to surface ships, or in an ASuW strike. An LHD is designed to assault a defended beach and take it by force. As a result, they have 6 fixed wing attack aircraft and about 24 rotary wing assets. A ramp would steal 2-3 of the 9 helicopter landing slots.
The USMC crunched the numbers and decided they would rather have a 50% increase in the number of helicopters coming over the horizon in each assault wave than more reserve fuel for their VTOL close air support assets. The emphasis is on getting boots on the ground very rapidly. It's all about generating assault waves in as many dimensions as possible in as short a time as possible. The US has CVNs for all of the other missions that most of the world uses its carriers for.
Cheers,
Logan
-
The other factor in the USN not having ski jumps on the LHDs and LHAs is their size means their flight decks are sufficiently long enough to operate STOVL aircraft at full weight without requiring the extra altitude boost the jump provides.

Thank you Logan and Volkodav for your responses.

It's a good question, and one I definitely asked myself more than once before I stumbled across the explanation one day. I have subsequently read more on it in some of Friedman's works and Warships books, for instance.

Unfortunately the touch-down is hidden behind the mast base but it looks like he came down fast with his starboard wing low & hammered the deck with that side's gear, which collapsed. There seems to be the possibility that he managed to hook his wheel on the last arrestor wire, too. It was a fairly poor landing from the beginning, given the relatively calm waters.
Definitely a brown pants moment.

An interesting video from Red Flag showing a ground-based air defence system struggling to electronically track and engage a manoeuvring C-130.
I think this video footage only reiterates to me the lack of modern anti-aircraft artillery in most Western militaries, which could and would have been able to engaged the C-130 visually....🤔

Video, courtesy Kitt Wilder, of STOL variant F-35B model landing JRB Fort Worth, and pilot ejects. Condition of pilot still unknown.
https://twitter.com/i/status/1603466654704406530
Observations by another pilot:
After yet another look, what becomes clear is that the aircraft didn't sense the touchdown: after the touchdown, the F-35B reduces the ETR (engine to idle), the flight surfaces reconfigure and the nozzle goes to 5°. In this case, for some reason, all the above did not happen.
