On November 7, 2020 I’d posted this notice of retiring from scale model building after completing the BroPlan Savoia-Marchetti SM.95 four-motor transport, CANT Z.506C Italeri Z.506B Conversion & Caproni Ca.111 vacuforms, injected-plastic Italeri Macchi C.202, below are descriptions & photos of the SM.95 build:

The Savoia-Marchetti SM.95 wood, steel & fabric-constructed four-engine mid-range transport aircraft conceived in 1937 was meant to succeeded the venerable three-engine Savoia-Marchetti SM.75 but did not fly till May 8, 1943. Two aircraft were constructed & flown operationally during WWII by the Regia Aeronautica Italiana (RAI) & Deutsches Luftwaffe purportedly 18 more post-war 5 serving with the Aeronautica Militare till 1953.

The 2016-vintage 1/72 scale BroPlan MS-193 & MS-192 Savoia Marchett SM.95 & SM.95C (Civile) vacuform styrene plastic kits with injected-plastic detail parts are the only ones available in any scale, largest in dimensional size of any Italian aircraft model in that scale as well. Heretofore impossible to find on March 19. 2018 located & bought one MS-193 SM.95 post-WWII military version kit off the Internet “at a fair price” intending to construct it in 1943 RAI livery.

In dubious league with my last-ever SUPERMODEL CANT Z1007bis Bideriva (twin tail) model build some years ago the BroPlan SM.93’s tailplanes are misaligned starboard (twisted aft fuselage halve castings former longitudinally uneven aft fuselage castings latter) neither discovered till after the mainwings were glued on in spite of several alignment checks, relying on eyeballs alone alas not enough here!

Amazing subject! And a great build of what sounds like a highly challenging build

Needless to say, Richard, when that fateful day finally arrives, your builds (and oscurità italiane) will be sorely missed  :(

...Commenced Broplan/Italeri CANT Z,506C Composite Build yesterday, moving faster then expected despite screwing up placing fuselage cabin windows, all had to be pried out, new windows cut & glued in place; all fuselage interior parts in place & gluing halves by Saturday. The Z,506C will be painted all white with circled red crosses assuming one or more of 38 Z.506C's built sported this air ambulance livery during WWII, no water decals to model anything else alas, shooting to get the Z.506C build done by December 4th.

...YOU'RE A CAMP Mat! MANY THANKS!!! Fuselage cross is directly over the fuselage cabin door, need to figure out how to place it there. Period photos & other modeler's builds show "window curtains" in place, as I write fabricating equivalents with cut styrene plastic strips, spray painting them Humbrol 103 Matt Cream, glue them in place after drying.

Engines Assembled, Mainwing Air Ventilation Stacks Glued In Place:

Long ago saved SUPERMODEL air ambulance circular surround red cross model decals not usable (first one totally disintegrated), viable but not ideal alternative purchased Tootsietoy Midgetoy Ambulance Decals Red Cross On Round Surface Scale Models set off eBay delivery December 8th:

Circular surrounds not available, must settle for plain crosses ;>(-

Possible Z.506C Red Cross Decals With Red Circle Outlines Fabrication Solution?

Red circle outline prints for sale on Internet too varied & off-scale to be of any pratical use, lightbuib came on to fabricate them with Microsoft WORD art tools as done some 16 years ago to fabricate black USAAF serial numbers & "nose art" for Airfix Boeing B-29 model now owned by friend of 57 years, print them on "non-standard technology" clear decal sheets fixed with matt spray though must print them on paper, glue on with white glue instead. Tonight created a 1.5-inch diameter red circle, cut it to fit over Z.506C mainwings, OK results though must wait till the Tootsietoy Midgetoy Ambulance Decals Red Cross On Round Surface Scale Models arive by December 8th to properly size & color rings for printing. Meantime commencing tomorrow, belatedly fabricating fuselage dorsal air ventilation ductwork with cut styrene sheet plastic strips, all day it'll take, fingers crossed they'll come out OK!

...Didn't want to fabricate the ductwork but no choice per period photos, forward "cone" air inlets still need to be painted black. Other Internet BroPlan Z.506C model photos show better crafted cones with holes, had no "cone" spare parts to fabricate them used sprues instead, carving out air inlet holes would had broke them apart! 2015 retooled Italeri Z.506B kit engine exhaust pipes far cry from generic 1983-vintage SUPERMODEL ones, actual Z.506Cs may had sported early S.79 straight pipes ala c.1967 Airfix kit, available period photos up on Internet not discernable as to exact shape.
