Inspired by the fan fil Starship Exeter, from a scene where the show a crashed stasrship hull on the surface of a planet, I built this for the Starship Modeler Wrecks contest a few years back. It gave me a chance to practice every weathering technique there is.

For a moment there, I thought this was a scene from "Star Trek XVI - The Lost Crew of the Kongo".

Yes, you had me snookered!

This beauty is bound to be in the running for the Sci-Fi blue ribbon at any model show!

As much as I like a well-built model, I absolutely love dioramas for the context they give. This is really good work and totally in keeping with the ST:TOS style. Thumbs-up from me.

The key to this was not to go too far on the weathering. I also didnt to alot of super detailing in the gash in the hull, some screen, wire, and little bits to suggest things in side. And the fun part was doing every thing you arent supposed to do on decals.

Oh yeah, she was futured and glossy and gorgeous once...then I took a knife and dremel to her. The grid was one big decal which I had to let dry, I applied more future and applied the registry over that, and futured again. I wasnt sure about the decal on decal thing, but it worked!
