German Plains 2

A US M113 column, recently arrived under the REFORGER exercise, stop to ask for directions from a M113 Motar bus.

As you can see, the mortar bus is deployed but with the tube still mounted in the vehicle - the base plate for dismounted firing is on the vehicle side.

The mortar crew have a rangerfinder set up, and a radio nearby.

The dio is simply a thin layer of plaster over a board with some paint and grass applied:

the mortar bus crew are a mix of the figures for a dismounted mortar kit and from the plain M113 kit.  Additional figures are from the command set.

cotton is used to simulate the Don-10 cable that would attach the radio to the track, with a map (suitable shrunk on a photocopier!) on the desk/table:

Nice work, Scran! Those details and very well done figures really bring the scene to life! I especially like how you left some of the hatches open so we can peek inside. Gives a real idea of what it must've been like to be crew on one of those monsters.

I've had several of those figures in the parts box for a long time. Just might have to use them now that you made them look so good.

Good to see this one posted again. It makes me feel nostalgic for the days of flipping through the latest issue of Military Modeler back in the early to mid 80s.
