Attention all hands, the following rules will go into affect ship wide no earlier than February 1st:
1. As the title says, all things that aquatic related that float/spend time on/under the water are allowed; civie as well as military and sci-fi. Your subject must come in direct contact with the water though. It can't simply fly/ride over it.
This includes, but is not limited to all forms of rafts, boats, ships, submarines, submersibles, flying boats, float planes, and amphibians. If you're unsure, file a proposal with the OOD and it will be taken under advisement.
2. Duration is February 1 - March 31 with a 2 week extension available if needed. Speak up if you want one when the time comes.
3. Be creative people!!! Blow the box wide open and leave it in the rear view!
4. Physical builds, profiles, stories, and any combination thereof will all be accepted. Collaborations are welcomed and encouraged.
5. Partially constructed builds will be subject to approval prior to their inclusion.
6. When in doubt ask! Direct all questions/comments/concerns/general griping and bribes to the CO's Suggestion Box. All serious suggestions will be considered. All non-serious ones will be handled by the MAA and on this ship its run by good ol' US Marines so think twice unless you want to be at their mercy in the brig ;)
One prize kit from each of these four categories will be awarded to the winner.
1> boat, ship, sub
2> military vehicle, can be AFV or logistic
3> prop aircraft, can be civil or military
4> jet aircraft, can be civil or military
That concludes the rules. Liberty will expire at 24:59 on the 31st. We'll be getting underway promptly at 00:00 so make sure you're aboard and your gear is squared away unless you want to be put on report. That is all.

??? Dost thou, perchance, mean "23:59" & "00:01" respectively? ???
-
No as we subscribe to the 25 hour clock since too many of the crew complain there isn't enough hours in the day. You should have seen the procurement costs for the new clocks and the calibration/conversion equipment since we're the only ship that runs on it. Nothing is too good for my crew!
-
are carrier based aircraft allowed? (like F-14, F-18, F4U Corsair....)
-
Does "aquatic related" include land battlecruisers or flying carriers (ship shape)?
-
How about amphibious vehicles like the AAV7, LVT5 etc. or even swimable AFVs, M-113, Luchs, S Tank
-
Nils - Carrier birds are more than okay.
Ysi - Not quite sure what you mean. Can you elaborate a little more please?
Volkodav - Marine vehicles are fine as they do travel on/in water and for the most part need ships to get them to beach so yes. Swimable AFVs, hmmm... That might be stretching it a bit.
I'll say water needs to be a dominant element in entry. It needs a clear connection with water/naval elements.
Feel free to make a case for your idea :)
-
Nothing definite, just looking at the stash and thinking. Carrier aircraft is a definite possibly as I have an F6F that is barely started, cockpit floor and stick are all I have assembled so far with all other parts still on the sprue and primed, some painted, would that be ok?
-
You trying to bribe me by talking about building my favorite Grumman Cat? ;D
Sounds fine man! Now to figure out what to do to your kitten? ;)
-
Please, Sir! May I have some more (time, that is)? ???
Only, I'm 4,300km from my stash & work area & I won't be getting back there until 15th Feb, after which it may take a week to convince SWMBO to let me set up my work area (1/4 of the dining table) before I can even start ... & I have an interesting (to me) idea I'd like to try.
:-\

Top one with wings is ultra inspiring :-*
New concepts, they be forming in my kitbash gray cells :)

Ysi - Not quite sure what you mean. Can you elaborate a little more please?
I mean thigs like this:

I have tried something like that some time ago, but the jet propelled ship looks impressive

What about a cutaway model of just vls cells with ASMs inside.
Also what is your stance on naval airships? I had a thought about a u-boat hunting, swordfish carrying airship - similar in role to those merchant aircraft carriers. I suspect it probably won't make the cut, but I just though I'd ask.

Just beautiful!!! :)
-
Ysi and Polygon - Go for it gents!!!!
Make your entries as navy related as possible guys. Again, when in doubt ask :)
-

I've had this one planned for years, a very simple, quite believable could have been. Did you know there were literally hundreds of Hellcats predeployed to Australia in WWII that I believe were scrapped, enough to have equipped several squadrons and provided sufficient spares to keep the type in service for years?
-
No I didn't but if that's the route you're going to go then all I have to say is DO IT! DO IT NOW!!!!!!
-
Okay guys, as an incentive to get you motivated an anonymous donor has offered up the following to the winner.
One prize kit from each of these four categories.
1> boat, ship, sub
2> military vehicle, can be AFV or logistic
3> prop aircraft, can be civil or military
4> jet aircraft, can be civil or military
If that isn't an incentive I don't know what is. Now get working >:( ;)
-
Cliffy B: I've just started a Fleet Air Arm Skyhawk (the white one with a Red Beard tac nuke that you did a profile of). Is it eligible?
The only gluing so far has been the seat, bulkhead, dashboard, intake trunking.
The only painting so far has been the basic cockpit colour, tires, jetpipe, compressor face, and about half of one sprue sprayed white.
The nose has been cut off in order to fit a Freightdog resin A-4C nose, which has been cleaned up a bit.
-
FAA Tac Nuke Scooter is approved. Now make with the photos!!!!!!
-
Ok, I'm in doubt. Hovercraft?
-
A hovercraft can get wet. Right?
-
Make a Navy or Marine Corps hovercraft and/or display it wet and it'll be okay :)

Family stuff been getting in the way for the last few days, but watch this space.... ;)

There are currently probably more hovercraft in use by police/fire/rescue/sheriff etc. than any military service,
and hovercraft are rarely used over dry land.
They just work better in the wet. ;)

The RNLI have hovercraft lifeboats for use in difficult tidal/shallow areas like Morecambe Bay:

Canadian Coast Guard use quite a few hovercraft, even use them for breaking up ice
-
Well, I decided to go with a submarine first, but I'll get some fans over the waves regardless. The weather hasn't been co-operating here in Texas, so build time has been a bit constrained. Thanks for the encouragement, colleagues.
-
Does it have to be a recent build, or can a be a build already done ?
-
You have to complete the build during the allotted time period. Already started projects can be entered (after approval) but not already finished projects.
-
How about an incomplete or interim standard build, i.e. I had something in mind but changed my mind because of some new information I recently came across but will not be able to complete it in the manner I now desire? Is it permitted to complete it to a preliminary standard, plastic bits and bobs but with the intent of detailing it down the track with PE once acquired?
I was initially going to finish my modernised KGV and was considering a 16" batch II KGV (as opposed to a Lion) either WWII or post war modernised configuration and / or, depending on time, a Nelson type 14" battlecruiser, but after seeing a very interesting photo I have now pulled a completely different kit out of the stash. I have everything I need for a basic build but will not be able to get all the required detail sets in time, is it acceptable to complete and submit a model completed to an interim standard?
-
I don't see why not. Shoot me a PM with the specifics so we can be sure.
-
I don't know if anyone's (even me) asked yet but can we have an extension? ???
I'm sure my build wont be finished by the end date. :icon_crap:
It might not make it by the end of a regular extension, either, but there's more chance of it. :-\
-
Sounds like some people might want a life preserver ring thrown ...

It's going to be pretty tight for me to wrap my project up - daughter's soccer and son's college visit are going to eat up my available time.
I'll second the motion for an extension.
-
i need more time to finish my project aswell ???
-
Stand by by for extension info. The brass is conferring ;)
-
Attention all hands an extension has been granted. All work must cease by 23:59 on April 14. No further extensions will be granted so hustle up!
As you were :)
-
I was excited and appreciative of the extension until I realised it coincides with school holidays and zero chance of doing anything that doesn't involve food, drinks, mine craft, Disney Infinity, Skylanders or Lego Batman.
If its not finished before then two weeks will make no difference.

HeLLO saillor! And thanks to the PtB for the extension - much appreciated.
-
i have finished my entry, but there appears to be no finished builds/profiles thread ???
-
Been sleeping in the pilothouse too often apparently. Issue has been addressed and solved. The coffee mess is working once again. As you were!
