And now for something completely different, an electric railroad locomotive.  Specifically, a Pennsylvania Railroad GG1 but done in the colors and schemes of the (US) Great Northern Railroad.  It's not as outlandish as it seems, both used the same electrification scheme and they did work together on some prototype and development efforts; for that matter, when the GNRR phased out its electrified section, deisel-electrics having replaced them, a number of the electric locomotives went to the PRR.

A follow-up to my post of 9/12/17, this time going the other way.  When the (US) Great Northern Railroad ended its operation of electrified (overhead catenary) lines, it sold 7 box-cab Y-2's and 1 streamlined Y-2a to the Pennsylvania Railroad who classified the box-cabs as Class FF-2, numbers 1 - 7, and used the Y-2a as a source of spare parts.  My whif would be the Y-2a, classified as a FF-2a, and painted in PRR Brunswick Green with gold strip on each side as on the PRR's diesels of similar contours.  I can supply data and drawings of the Y-2a if anyone wishes to attempt this.

Cool idea    What sort of timeframe are you looking at? (If WarPac, Walter M601 and Glushenkov TVD-10 both date to 1967.) Any particular markings/scheme in mind?

I haven't got as far as markings, but I'm maybe possibly thinking RCAF, but in USAF SEA 3-tone with black underside.

Honestly a top and profile line drawing would be preferred over a full colour.

More I think on it... what would 48th OV-1 wings look like on 48th L-29 Delfin. This might be the easy answer, as it get rid of the wing-root jet intakes. The fuselage exhaust would be faired over.

Hmm..OV-1 wings on a A-10...only about 1" shorter per side in 48th...

And the Mohawk could get the 72nd Osprey wings & engine...

Building one of these at the moment and the colour scheme is a little "meh" for me. Would be curious to see it in some other schemes, desert, Far East etc. I was thinking of doing it in a zebra type scheme as well.

re; request for USN Rafale. I did a Rafale series last year, so I used a full-size (8000 X) template and worked up a Rafale in VFA-105; then reduced to 1800 X.

How about an Italian Yokosuka D4Y? Or German?  Have plans and maybe a prototype come by sub in 1942. Give it either a DB601 as originally designed or a radial like the D4Y3. Could be a great add for the German and Italian CV projects.

The early models would work for Italian - just substitute an Alfa Romeo R.A.1000 R.C.41-I Monsone.

The radial is trickier. The BMW 801 is bigger but also waaay heavier than the Kinsei 62.

Well, the Aichi Atsuta in the early D4Y1 and D4Y2 was a Japanese licensed version of the German Daimler-Benz DB 601A so definitely no issues there.  In fact, they might as well just be DB 601s or perhaps Alfa-Romeo R.A.1000 R.C.41-I Monsones in German/Italian ones.  As for radial engines, yes the BMW 801 would simply be too large/heavy to be an easy swap.  I wouldn't try to do something swapping this.  The Japanese apparently had issues with the Aichi Atsuta engines hence the swap but the DB.601 was well known and used in Germany/Italy so just stick with it.

One option may even be that as part of some sort of swap deal the D4Y2 is produced under licence in Italy/Germany.  Perhaps Japan doesn't actually enter the war (no Pearl Harbour) but as part of the Axis still supplies equipment to its allies) or perhaps they enter the war but attack the USSR rather than USA...  Another might be simply that the Germans and Italians are looking for a option other than Ju87s for the Graf Zeppelin/Aquila.

If I understand what I've read correctly, the main problem with both the Aichi and Kawasaki (IJNAF and IJAAF licencees respectively for the DB601) was that license right were not obtained for the Bosch fuel injection system and that Japanese replacements never managed to be as good.  A D4Y1 or D4Y2 with a DB601 or the Italian-produced equivalent would not have that problem.  For growth versions, you could upgrade to the DB605 which had the same installation envelope as the DB601.
