Depicting tarnished structural aluminium.

I want to do a very heavily weathered aluminium-hulled vehicle and then do chipping over the top of it.

Can anyone give me some hints in making that grey-silver aluminium colour and texture?

Funny thing, I was just wondering the same a couple of days ago after I walked past a car with an exposed aluminum frame on it.

Pretty good page on aluminum corrosion: Amtec consultants

Good picture from their site:

I would try either a light gray, maybe with a bit of aluminum color, then a thin layer of flat clear with a touch of white. Or just an aluminum base with a flat coat (with or without white/gray) then touch ups with white or light gray.
