Keep getting 'Database Error' . . .
« on: April 05, 2023, 11:52:29 PM »
As it says above, I keep getting the 'Database Error,' when trying to make big Posts, with pictures, etc.
I'll write the Post, add the image links, and submit it. I then get about 2-3 minutes of the spinny circle, then

'Database Error - Please try again. If you come back to this error screen, report the error to an administrator.
[/size] It only seems to happen with long Posts with several images.

EDIT:- Point in fact, this Post went up no problem.

cheers,
Robin.

And how many pictures? I believe there's a limit on the number of pic's that can occupy one post (due to data size limits).

@GTX, twenty eight lines of text, and ten picture links.
@OW, I'm only putting picture links in the Post text, not attaching them direct . . .

cheers,
Robin.

Believe it or not, I've just tried again, and the Post has posted !!    ???    >:D
However, this is not the first time I've had this happen, so if I send you a copy of the Post by Pm, maybe you can see what I'm doing wrong, or what the fault is . . .

cheers,
Robin.

I tried Firefox and Chrome . . . I've just now managed to post my Post using Chrome, I find if I use Firefox it screws up the formatting . . .

It now appears to be my turn in the slot.  Attempted to create new topic on a product and it failed miserably.   Went to a white screen of death with this little missive in the upper left corner:
Quote
MySQL server has gone away

Several more attempts finally netted this:
Quote
MySQL server has gone away
File: /home/tdeh5pq7jwhl/public_html/Forum/Sources/Subs.php
Line: 3102

Note: It appears that your database may require an upgrade. Your forum's files are currently at version SMF 2.0.19, whilst your database is at version 2.0.1. The above error might possibly go away if you execute the latest version of upgrade.php.

I did manage to create a "place holder" for the product information I wanted to share but returning to the posted topic to update it has been unsuccessful.  Checked the forum logs to see if there were any issues being reported on my actions or the actions of others at the time and there was nothing to show that any errors had been created or reported.  So this is now beyond my level of expertise as a moderator as there is nothing to show what or why this issue is happening.  I am going to continue to deal with updating my topic and maybe it will be successful or maybe it will be more time wasted.  SimpleMachines are starting to look like SimplyFucked.

That certainly doesn't seem healthy.

I'd recommend moving to a dedicated virtual server and probably upgrading to SMF 2.1 at the same time.
