McDonnell T-170
« on: January 22, 2019, 07:57:49 PM »
Inspired by Carl's swept wing Banshee.
Using Magister fuselage left from RP-26 build as core of McDonnell T-170 trainer.
Banshee inner wing sections cut at folding point.
Outer wings from parts bin.  Think are first gen 737 1/144 tails.  Not positive.  Do know T-170 is a scaleorama.  Though is not in GB.
1/72 F-86 tail wings.
Getting started pictures attached.

Should have great turning ability with all that wing area! Very interesting, I'll be watching this one.

Wings & tails glued on and a paint job with couple little fixes to do.
Based on scheme of some USAF trainers which T-170 will be.

Progress pictures.
Need to do landing gear and nose probe.
Always can do paint clean up.  Start looking at decals.  Write briefing.
Like to finish T-170 and A-30 before Scale-O-Rama GB starts.

AAH,,, finished !
After RP-26 build had Magister fuselage on bench.  Looked it over.  Wanted larger engines.  Looked around stash, ckecked kits and this configuration happened.
Color scheme is based on whatz seen on some USAF trainers.
Thanks for watching T-170 build.

pictures and briefing are attached
BTW - is a scaleorama.

Those bits were made for each other, nice bit of plastic surgery with an excellent paint job.

You've really captured the "McDonnell essence" into plastic. Looks like an intermediate step between the Banshee and the Voodoo. Nice

That looks like an advanced trainer! The top view makes me think it's a much bigger plane than the side view shows.

Interesting to read your comments-impressions.  Others often pickup on points a builder don't see.
Needed medium amount of plastic surgery even though could see parts had sorta predestiny to fit together.
Only since you mentioned it does "McDonnell essence" and between the Banshee and the Voodoo click with me.  Am onboard now.
When working close with build didn't pickup on how different size impression is between top and side views.  Do agree.

Notes:  Intake shock cones are OOB Banshee exhaust cones.  After fussing and failing with shorter parts too small made nose spear by cutting end off a toothpick.  737 rudders happened to fit so perfect that did not go on to look for more sweep like F-86 F9F wings.
Thanks all - Bill
