Yes, I'm still around. I haven't posted much nor built much in the last year. But I have a great excuse. 3 years ago my wife and I bought a small RV. It's a fully self contained unit in a 24ft Mercedes Sprinter. Since then, we have been traveling more than we were home. So we decided to sell our house and just live in the van for a while. So between traveling and the work needed to sell the house, I have had little modeling time. But the house is sold and I have a little free time now. It was a tough job clearing out the extra bedroom I had for all my hobby stuff. But then, my wife had a room full of her sewing stuff she had to go through. We still have some of our stuff stored, but we can't carry much in our new home.
Right now, we are spending a few days at my sister's in a spare bedroom. My wife is attending a sewing/quilting show and I'm going to use the next couple day to build a model for this 48 hour challenge.
Here is my model. An (old) 1/72 Airfix Whirlwind still in the bag.

I do get some nice views while modeling.

Oh, yes, my wife found a way to carry her sewing machine and some supplies as well.

The time is 10:15am EDT in Atlanta Georgia. The bag is open and the game is on.

Sorry, Ed, but those Google images aren't working for me. :(
-
Same for me. No images :(
@Ed S - I checked the image links and all are quite exceptional in length and not at all providing a direct connection to your source. So much so that some of the link is just word salad.
-
yeah. They looked good in the preview page. Have to try again.
-
I'll second the other two, no images showing up for me.
-
Ditto
-
I didn't see any images either.

Sorry about the pictures. I will sort this out after I finish the model.
-
If you send me the photos I will sort them out for you.

Finished. A Whirlwind as used by the USAAC in North Africa.

I realized as I was taking pictures that I hadn't added the gun barrels. So a quick fix. The props aren't glued in place and tend to slip in handling.

OK. I have to admit, it's not one of my better models. Trying to get things done means shortcuts like not giving glues, putty, and paint coats enough time to properly cure. So there are some problems in the finish. And the other problem is that when you mess something up, you really don't have time to fix it properly.
Lessons learned. I could build a model in 48 hrs successfully. Would I do it again. Probably not. Also, Google Photo won't allow image posting to forums. I signed up for Imgur and it appears to be working.

Much betterer!
OK, even I can see a few flaws but for a quick build it's pretty damned good! 8)
-
That's fantastic for a blitz build!
The Whirlwind looks a winner in that scheme.

We'll see how things go with the current epidemic. It may curtail some of our travels for a while.

I have a plan for a different sort of retirement travelling home:
(https://www.primaryflightcontrol.com/Images/primaryflightcontrol/listings/aircrafts/UserUpload_ioagdi6ai5q65xb.png) (and yes, this one is for sale)
Fitted out similar to be a modern Landseaire (see here (https://www.messynessychic.com/2014/04/24/all-aboard-the-flying-yacht-circa-1950/)).
-
Works for me. Will you take a Sprinter in trade?

@Greg/GTX - Did your plans to purchase the Hughes H-4 fall through?

Looks good for a quick build - especially of that old Airfix kit. Do you have room for an airbrush in the new rolling estate?

No airbrush. No room and too close for the fumes. Everything is brush painted with acrylics.
In fact everything for model building fits in this box. Tools, supplies, kits, paints. Even a small battery powered rotor tool. I am basically using 6 colors of acrylic paint and mixing everything I need from black, white, yellow, red, blue, and dark brown paint. I have a FS595 set of colors that I match to. The Whirlwind colors of Azure Blue, Midstone, and Dark Earth were all mixed to match.

Love the USAAF desert scheme on your Whirlwind

Hmmm, maybe RV makers should be looking at hobby-related slide-outs?

They've cut too many holes in in mate:

Besides, I love the Catalina.

Nope, but I will give you a day trip in it once I have it. Already got the colour scheme sorted - think something similar to this but without the roundels:

I thought so. As previously discussed, it would also be a homage to "Osa's Ark" and "Spirit of Africa" (see below):
