OK, not that effective, then.
Doesn't look like it'd have been that difficult to turn them into something moderately useful, though, if you gave them a decent "shotgun" warhead instead of the parachute mine.

I was thinking the same thing? I could see either fairly large shot or flechettes for that purpose. Of course, on land the flechette round could have other purposes.

Dangling explosives hanging on wires seemed to be the thing back then from what I've read ---

Given a proper warhead, I suppose the installation on a Churchill chassis might have been useful against fortifications. Think Sturmpanzer IV/Sturmtiger, but with more ready-to-fire rounds/a much higher rate of fire. Bunker-buster on a landing beach? Or perhaps fire support in a built-up area?
