Do you know The Handmaid's Tale? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Handmaid%27s_Tale_(TV_series)

What about a Gilead GB?

USA converted into an economically challenged country, has to use only cheap weapons or assets from preGilead era conviniently refurbished.

How about "Meatwagon Group Build"?  Aircraft, armor, trucks, boats, ships, or spacecraft built or modified as ambulances?

I have a Swordfish I have been wanting to turn into one  ;)

Just a classic:

Luftwaffe GB

Two RW periods (1924-1945 and 1955-today) and some alternative scenarios (Luft'46, ...)

Based on the suggestion of a Cobra in Iranian colours, how about "the Iranian Revolution never happened" or it happened later on in the late 80s or 90s.

With the long and interesting shopping list pre-revolution Iran had there could have been many, many, interesting options.

Just of the top of my head:

- Kidd Class destroyer were built for Iran
- The wanted Kortenaer Class frigates as well (Mk45 5" instead of 3")
- Challenger MBT was actually designed for them
- They expressed interest in Invincible Class carriers
- They expressed interest in Sea Harrier
- Bell had a number of interesting developments underway for them, some continued some didn't
- The wanted F-16s

Two suggestions:

  • The space race never ended - basically, instead of the Apollo program winding up after the moon landings, the race continued onto Mars and beyond and the Russians and others also continue to race.  Also provides opportunities for plenty of near term scifi ideas.
  • The Cold War never ended - basically, the revolutions of 1989 which culminated in the fall of the Berlin wall and reunification of Germany never occur.  The USSR and Warsaw Pact is still strong today with things like East German Su-27s and the like.

I like your ideas as jumping-off points Mr GTX, but I find the time-frames a bit restrictive.

How about just a general Cold War or Space Race theme? Leaving the time-frames open-ended might help broaden appeal and thus participation.

I always enjoy new posts to the GB Suggestion Box. Thank you for starting this up again!

Further to a discussion in the Back Bar, what about an Invasion of Japan (end of WW2) GB?

How about the politicians actually listened to the warnings GB, i.e. the force levels and equipment projects the Generals / Admirals etc. recommended as needed to deter aggression were adopted pre WWII, pre Falklands pre whatever other conflicts.

I know, I know  ;).

Actually "The Rise of the Bomber" pushes the view that the RAF was able to convince government that the bombers were the most effective and cheapest deterrent available, i.e. the threat of totally destroying the hostile nations industrial and population centres would prevent future wars.  Sold on this huge sums of money was spent on aircraft that many of which turned out to be incapable of reaching the targets they were meant to destroy because numbers where more of a deterrent than actual capability.

In hindsight a much greater UK deterrent pre WWII Europe would have been the planned mechanised Corps with its integrated tactical air support of approximately 23 squadrons of tactical fighters, close air support light bombers and reconnaissance aircraft.  In South East Asia it would have been the battle squadron built around Ark Royal (she was designed with the intent of sending her to Hong Kong / Singapore) the modernised Battlecruisers and later Vanguard (that could / would have been completed much earlier had resources not had to be diverted to for more pressing matter that would not have occurred if the war had not started).

Would Argentina have invaded the Falklands if the UK had even just a pair of conventional strike carriers in 1982?

Mixed entity GB.
Recognizable parts from two or more countries in one build.
Extends to fiction such as 2001 Pam Am shuttle with Star Trek warp drive unit on top.
Mix fiction model with RW model.

Scale-O-Rama GB.
Yes, sounds simple in title.  Bet some of us never tried it.  Lot of examples at BTS glean ideas from.

Hi guys

I have a dream. A dream of a "true" Group Build.

Not different guys building different things in different countries, but different guys of different countries building something in common, as group.
Kind of an "International collaboration GB".

Logistically I envision it in 2 forms:

1. An "Around The Globe" GB, in which the "WIP model" is passed around between modelers in different countries, each one performing a task on it.

2. A "Global Network" GB, in which different modellers in different countries perform an independent task, and them send the different pieces
to another member who acts as a central hub, integrating all the components to achieve the "final product".

Since there are members in pretty  much all continents, it would be fairly easy.
For obvious reasons we would have to choose different modelling themes and schemes for both alternatives.

In order to make it practical I would say 4 members per build a realistic goal, and the last modeller in that GB chain would keep the model, just sharing the photos of it.

Do you guys think it is feasible?

Let us do something different in 2019. Or at least try it :)

It is theoretically possible and has been suggested before but does risk getting expensive.  Would probably need to be an all year activity as well.  It can go into the mix for voting.  May also require similar for profiling etc.

Can't but agree, the idea is brilliant but i think the cost of the logistics will scupper it.

Maybe we restrict the movement to within a:

- country/duchy/kingdom or a
- canton/oblast/prefecture/province/state/territory or a
- city/shire or an
- acropolis/castle/citadel/enclave/fortress/garrison/presidio or redoubt?
Work in progress ::

I am giving up listing them. They all end up on the shelf of procrastination anyways.
