I can´t see why G-R couldn´t succesfully adapt P&W engines to european measurements when Hispano-Suiza and the Soviets did it to Wright Cyclone.
It might even make them more reliable than the historical G-R engines that were rather tempremental, to go even deeper into speculation just imagine the MB-150 series with a french equivalent of the Ash-82 or for that matter the IAR-80 with say a 1500-1600 hp engine

That F-8 style intake below the cockpit would solve my issue concerning where to put the intake if I ever build the three engine bomber I’ve been thinking about.

Added the skirt panels, a radar dish & comms aerial.  The number for Contestant “6” is from an Italeri truck kit & is quite thick so lots of Solvaset was used – not perfectly snuggled down but OK.
Just a few more parts to add plus the fuel tanks.

Actually, the Gnome-Rhône Jupiter 9AD was quite widely exported. Perhaps G-R signed a license with juicy per-unit fees that Bristol couldn't resist? Or, maybe, Bristol was just too busy for the challenge of adapting the Jupiter from imperial BSF to metric? Who knows?

Interesting point on Bristol's growing competition from US engine makers. G-R did, of course, face some competition from Hispano-Suiza which held licenses from Wright for the HS 9Q (J-6/R-975) and HS 9V (R-1820) series.

So, what if G-R had responded by seeking licenses from Pratt & Whitney? Might we have seen a twin-rowed Gnome-Rhône radial based upon the R-1830 -- a metric Guêpe Jumelle? -- instead of the RW G-R 14K Mistral Major evolved from Bristol's Titan? Now there is a fun whif with plenty of re-engining potential!
