1/72 JASDF F-35X
« on: March 08, 2019, 03:46:23 PM »
hey guys

I have been playing around with this F-35 for a few weeks now in between another project I have been tinkering on which will also soon be finished.
I've often thought the F-35 was pretty ugly and so decided that I may have to do something about that. I'm not sure it's as pretty as it could be, but I am happy with it

I've reversed the wings and made them out of sheet styrene. I added some canards because canards are cool and reversed the tail fins I also added some body panels which you can't really see under the paint. The decals are from an F-15 kit I had lying around except the roundels which I painted on

It was just a fun project to help try lift my stymied modelling mood of late.

Anyways, tell me what you think - good or bad

thanks for looking guys
Si

Madhatter, I like this a lot, everything adds an aggressive look to the plane, only the reversed fins in my opinion "slow" down a bit the overall design!

Im uncertain of the best words to describe my impression of this....

I think ‘bloody awesome’ would fit.

Do you have any "Modifications In-Progress" shots, especially of the wing reversal?  I have a couple 1/48 forward swept wing projects rattling around in my head and any insight you can provide to how you did it would be greatly appreciated.

Other than that, all I can say is, "That sound you hear is my jaw hitting the floor."

Well done.

Very appropriate you choose JASDF markings. It looks like it’s right out of an anime movie! Beautiful work

Love it!  Weapons fit seems a tad out of date though.  Love the paint scheme.

Snazzy paint scheme plus forward swept wings.  A very good combination.

I agree with this.  I'd reckon the only changes I could see would be to replace the Sidewinders with AAM-3 or AAM-5 missiles and the Sparrows with AAM-4 missiles to stay with existing JASDF stock.

How did you do the white stripping?

Thanks everyone for the kind posts
Yeah, I only had the missiles attached in my inventory in 72nd scale so I had to use those.  Plus, I have no idea what the JASDF use on their fighters
Sorry I didn't take any WIP shots as this was just meant to be a no additional effort required build. I just cut the wing at the angle I wanted and made some wing panels from there.  In hind sight, I would have spent more time thinning the trailing edges though
The white edging was done with 2mm tape strips and 5 on the control surfaces
