Title: M10 HVSS
Post by: Feldmarschall Zod on April 19, 2012, 07:20:25 AM
1/48.
The added armor is plastic sheet. The barrel is a 17 lbr,but I added a U.S. muzzle brake.

That is VERY pretty.  It looks very mean.  I like it a lot.

Cheers,

Logan

I'm glad to see this one again! I always thought it was such a cool, plausible looking idea. One of these days, I'd like to do a similar vehicle in 1/35 scale but I'm reluctant to sacrifice my only Academy M36 for the build.

Thanks Jaques. :) It seems the M36 may not be available anymore. Maybe Ebay?

Another winner! Looks like you've got a whole armored battalion on your shelves.  ;)

Your touches give a dangerous on-the-prowl hunting look.  Great build  :)

That looks great!  It's a very attractive vehicle on a Sherman chassis.  Well done!

Cheers,

Logan

Indeed! It'd be nice to see that sitting beside The Zod's M10 HVSS.

Wow, that is very similar to the M5A3 medium tank I have on my "to do" list. Mine would be more like the standard 76mm gun 'E8 Sherman with the M36 upper hull but otherwise the concept is very similar. I'm really wowed by the "Jumbo" variant though. It's very nicely done take on the sloped hull Sherman concept.

Here  is a image of a sherman with the early turret with a long barreled 76 mm gun.  The gun unbalanced the turret.  This lead to shortening the barrel by five calibre lengths and adding a counter weight to the breech.

If the British could make the 17pdr fit in a early Sherman turret, Detroit could have figured out a way to make the long barreled 76 mm/L57 work.  Here is my version of a Sherman Turret with said gun on a M10 chassis with applique armour installed.

This is the prototype/pilot vehicle for my fictional M7 General Thomas tank.  I have a AFV Club M35 artillery tractor and a Nichimo M4A1 sherman lined up to make this as my next armour build

I should credit the image,  it is from "World War II AFV Plans, American Armored Fighting Vehicles" by George Bradford, Copy Right 2007, Stackpole Books.

I look forward to seeing that built up. :)

Here are images of one of the evaluation test vehicles of the M7 Medium Tank "General Thomas" as it would appear during the Sicily campaign (took 3rd place in "Hypothetical, Non Scifi at 2014 IPMS Nationals).  It is an Academy M10 chassis (with applique armor added on front and sides) with a Nichimo M4 turret with an aftermarket M1A1 76 mm L52 gun barrel that I lengthened by 5 caliber lengths to reflect the M1 76mm L57 gun.  Comments are welcomed.  Next in line is a M7 Firefly or M7 with all welded hull with T23 turret.
