Hi guys
Just to show something a friend of mine did and is thinking about turning into a commercial product.
A nice base for small dioramas /vignettes, made in MDF:
This is the 1/48 version example.
14 x 14 cm ( aprox. 5.5 x 5.5") of pure perfection:

And with some 1/48 figures to give some sense of proportions:

He is currently figuring out the financial aspects, so I have no idea of price at this moment.
But what do you guys think?
Any feedback is more than welcome.
Thanks!

Looks good. does it have raised details or is it only printed? Also, will there also be a 1/35 version?
-
Antonio,
Thanks for sharing your friends work. Is this all done by hand or was it the result of using something like 3D printing? Either way it does look good.
-
Hi guys
Yes, the details are 3D, not just a flat "print out".
The process however is not of a "classic" 3d printer. It is an industrial laser cutting machine
which engraves an MDF block according to a programmed drawing.
The darker the drawing line, the deeper it carves the MDF block, so the result is in 3D.
To enhance the 3D effect in this particular case, he made 2 layers and glued them together.
Tonight I will take a few more pictures do show it better.
Thanks for the interest!

Antonio,
Thanks for the explanation. Had not even considered the possibility of laser cutting but that definitely explains the details and it does not make this any less impressive. Perhaps this will be something very useful for our hobby.

Hi again
Some more photos showing the 3D effect achieved:

Thanks for watching and feedback!

Looking good. Will they be available in 1/35?
-
Yes!
Actually 1/35 was his first choice, but I challenged him to reduce it to 1/48 (the one I am showing)
and 1/72 (not yet done) to see if the process still works at those smaller scales.
Please find below the original one, in 1/35, after painting.

Pretty cool, right? :)

Very cool!! You can almost feel the streetcar running on those tracks.

Looking forward to seeing more of these.
