Of course the topic would not be complete without mentioning the Panther's starring role on the silver screen in the film "The Bridges at Toko Ri".  Certainly a great movie to watch as a young and very impressionable kid and it is still a great film to watch as an adult.

I plan on doing either a RAAF one or even trying to do this Australian CAC (?) indigenous design using one as a starting point:

All hail the God of Frustration!!!

But you can make the Bastard work for it.

I always felt the cougar was a design just begging for two engines.

It wouldn't even be that labour intensive to WHIFF a two engined variant just looking at the plan view.

Or perhaps a McDonnell/Grumman colaboration crossing the Cougar with the XF-88?

The idea of a Banshee like Panther variant had crossed my mind.

As for the Two engined Cougar; my thought was more along the lines of a Grumman joint project with either Gloster or maybe Blackburn. I find the fuselage of the Cougar is a bit reminiscent of the Javelin.

Panther or Cougar with contra-rotating propellers mounted on the nose.   Salvage the propellers from the Convair XFY Pogo or Lockheed XFV Salmon in the same scale.  I suspect the nose gear might require a bit of extending to clear the propeller blade tips from contact with the ground but it would certainly look interesting.

Greg's CAC design also immediately brought to mind cross-breeding the Javelin.

The Norwegians flew the Panther 5P during the Cold War  alongside the Meteor PR.3s and Trackers they had in Svalbard.   :-*

So did the Germans.

Stumbled upon this. Sapphire Cougar.  My understanding is the requirement was fulfilled by the F11F Tiger

Yeah, this evolved in the XF9F-9 which became the original "short nose' F11F-1.

Do a Grumman Panther in that scheme and have the pilot as "J. Clouseau", probably ranked as an Ensign or Lieutenant, J.G.

Some sort of bat-winged delta.
Not exactly F4D, not exactly Draken.
But something the Swedes could put in full splinter.
