USS Hayler DDH proposal built from a Kidd kit with a twist. Still experimenting with camo (I'm getting really sick of flat grey), didn't turn out exactly as I wanted but I don't want to repaint it:
In case anybody is interested, here's a quick overview of my Izumo:
There's no internal hangar detail, but Hasegawa probably left the elevator as a separate part for some intrepid scratch builders.
The hull comes in 4 pieces, my first experience with such a kit. There were some obvious gaps in the joins, but the hull built up to be perfectly flat, which was the most important thing to me:
The airwing is quite nicely detailed. Fun fact - the airwing shown on the boxart is exactly what you get in the box(2 seahawks, 2 merlins and 2 ospreys).
Merlins, you get 2 right halves and one left half:
Seahawks, I especially like the detail of the landing gear:
Ospreys, I really like the way Hasegawa split the body. Aoshima and Trumpeter have the tailfin as a separate part which is a pain to get on and always breaks:
Deck vehicles:
Here it is next to the best thing I've got to compare it to, a Wasp class LHD ( I would love to have it next to a CVN, But I don't have one yet):
It's only about 1 deck lower than a Wasp:
Even bigger than an Audacious class carrier:
On a side note, I see what you did there Japan:
Altough it could be just because of the ospreys:
All in all, I think its quite a nice kit. Would have also liked to compare it to a Hyuga, but I don't have one either. Funny story, I was JUST about to place an order for a Hyuga, but before I clicked submit I went for a quick browse on the net and discovered the reservations for the Izumo opened up! - bigger hull = better whiff potential.
