I want to keep this slightly believable... "what if the control systems and other issues had been solved"

This is the first pass at the metal finish, to see what needs fixing. It's a quick and dirty first coat. I removed it and repainted (after fixing some problems):

This was going to be a quick and dirty fun project before I pick a longer, more complicated project. A modeling "amuse bouche". Buuut... I remembered that I had this old Planet kit:

I started it 25 years ago or more (shortly after it was released in 1999) and put it away when I became annoyed at the resin fit and finish. I decided this would be a good time to finish it, as a captured test companion to the Avrocar:

The underside shows some of the ugliness, although the BMW003 engine is nicely rendered:

One of the Me109 wheels is missing, so I replaced two of the wheels with a pair from an ancient Hasegawa Bf. 109 kit.

I'm interested to know if the MB-339 will eventually make an appearance.

I plan to bring it in to the story eventually.

Love your 'Wolf 100' scheme with Stuart Ash's Centennial Maple Leaf on the tail

Would the 'Wolf 100' demonstrations also have been part of Tattoo 1967?

Thanks! I suppose the demos could be worked into Tattoo 1967, I'll do a bit of research into the event and see if I can make it work.

Some Tamiya NATO black for contrast.

Some touch ups and then rust!

Thanks, Craig. I've come along on the Around the Moon ship, but still have a long way to go:

Thanks, guys. I don't think I'm going in the racer direction; that would be too much of a stretch, unless it was a race against drunk turtles.

I copied was inspired by Zenrat's build over at Whatif and found some skids from a Hasegawa Hughes 300 eggplane that I bought for parts:

and added the modified skids. I also closed off the holes I made for the landing gear. The skids look big, but they'll do:

I was hoping that the eggplane would be closer to 1/35 or 1/32 but it looks very close to 1/48. Since this is 1/72... close enough.

I'm not convinced that this model really represents any version of the Avrocar. Maybe the instructions are so vague that I've put some of the parts on wrong. The molding is OK, but it just doesn't look right - which makes it perfect for whiffing.

@raafif - I have a "flying saucer" that I made from two ancient (mid to late 1950s) Lindberg and Airfix aircraft stands that oddly fit this kit perfectly. I never went far beyond sanding and polishing the two stands, though.

@Stephen - I couldn't find anything about C.J. Williams. Odd.

I love the rust job! Can you carefully remove one grain and leave a sliver of paint, like you see in some rusted objects?

Cool project! And nice to see design credit for the Avrocar right on the box!  :D

'Jack' Frost was, of course, the head of Avro Canada's Special Projects Group. I wonder who C.J. Williams was?
